Mechanical Properties of virus studied by Atomic Force Microscopy

The cover of the 2007 issue of Revista Española de Física illustrates an artistic representation of individual viral particles adsorbed on a glass surface. The stiffness/elasticity of a few viruses have been analyzed by Atomic Force Microscopy, in experiments that involve the application of indentation forces. The deflection of the laser deflection accounts for the applied force.
